A Note About Lye: Sodium hydroxide, commonly known as lye, is necessary to make real soap. During the soapmaking process, it reacts with the oils through a process called saponification, transforming them into soap and glycerin. No lye remains in the finished, properly cured bar.

Caring for Your Soap

To help your soap last longer, allow it to dry fully between uses. Keep it on a well-draining soap dish and away from standing water or a constant stream of water.
